Fernando Carro was named CEO of Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH in July 2018 and led the club to its first German league title in its 120-year history in 2024. Bayer 04 then went on to win the DFB Cup for a second time after 31 years, capture the 2024 Supercup while reaching the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Within global football, Fernando represents the interests of the Bundesliga since 2021 as a board member of the EFC, is a member of the supervisory board of Bundesliga as well as Bundesliga International GmbH and is part of several key UEFA committees.

The professional career of the industrial engineer was particularly influenced by his roles within the Bertelsmann Group. Fernando held various management positions for the global company over 24 years. Most recently, as CEO of Arvato, he headed the Bertelsmann subsidiary with over 70,000 employees that provides services including IT, logistics, finance and customer support to companies around with world. He was also a board member of the Bertelsmann Group.

In the 90s, Fernando led the global student organisation AIESEC, first as German and then as international president. Parallel to his studies, he worked as a sports journalist. The passionate sports fan was active in football, athletics and tennis for many years.
