What We Do

The Transfer System

The Transfer System Header

The Transfer System relates to the rules and regulations which govern the movement of players between football clubs globally. These rules, contained in the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, govern the stability of contracts, as well as how and when player transfers take place.

The Transfer System is critically important for clubs as it generates substantial transfer revenues and other payments (for example, training compensation for clubs which develop young players). For many clubs, transfer revenues are a crucial source of revenue and constitute a substantial part of their budget. As a whole, the Transfer System allows for the distribution of funds across the football ecosystem. EFC speaks on behalf of all its Member Clubs in discussions with FIFA, UEFA, EU institutions and other key stakeholders to advocate for a Transfer System that protects clubs and players and encourages contractual stability, in line with EU law. We continuously monitor and respond to developments in relation to the Transfer System and analyse how they could impact clubs. This ensures we are well placed to provide our members with ongoing guidance and support.
